My dad taught me this lesson better than any coach ever could.
He lived with Multiple System Atrophy—MSA—an invisible, relentless opponent that stole pieces of him year after year. He couldn’t train for it. There was no bell to end the round, no referee to stop the punishment. And yet, day after day, he kept throwing punches, the quiet ones, internal ones, the kind no crowd ever cheers for.
He fought with dignity. With humor. With a stubborn refusal to let the disease decide who he was.
He was much tougher than I’ll ever be.
Watching him taught me the truth: the greatest fights don’t happen under bright lights. They happen inside the body that’s betraying you, inside the mind that’s exhausted, inside the heart that’s grieving what’s being taken.
That’s why Haymakers Only exists.
